Questionnaire Results

I asked 20 local people to fill out my questionnaire to find out: what I should name my paper; what colour scheme to use; how much to price it, and also what paper they are most likely to read in order to study what makes an newspaper appealing. I found that Halstead Express was the most popular name, red and white the most popular colour scheme and people expect a price of between £1.11-£1.50 and also that the Sun is the most popular newspaper from my study group.

This is my first attempt at master head for my newspaper, based on The Sun Newspaper

Tabloid Front page conventions

Tabloids in the UK include, The Mirror,  The Sun and The Daily Mail.
Typically the name of the newspaper will be in large white font embedded on red, creating a high contrast high impact and easily recognizable Logo. The Daily Mail breaks the trend the name of the paper is printed black on white in Old English font with the royal crest in between the words, perhaps to indicate at the Nationalistic nature of the newspaper.
It seems the something of the nature of the Newspaper can be derived from the Master head of the paper. Red on White will typically be a low-brow newspaper focusing on, celebrity, sport and overall inconsequential matters. Black on White with an royal emblem such as Daily Mail and the Independent will typically right wing newspaper focusing on politics, internal and international affairs and finance, though they will most likely have sports section as well. 

A Tabloid will focus on one article on the front page and accompany it with an large picture and a caption. the more outlandish the better, the caption will often be an pun or alliteration, the cleverness of the pun and the amount of writing on the article depending on the target audience of the Newspaper.

Examples of Newspaper Logos

I plan on showing this document to people in my area to find out which people find the most eye catching, as well as which Logos have connotations of, intelligence, celebrity and which are unappealing and why. 

So far I believe the Jubilee sign signifies an right wing paper which are anti immigration. Those aimed at the working population are white on red. Conversely the broadsheet The Guardian is in blue when it is a left wing paper which is more commonly associated with the colour red. The Guardian logo is in lower case, which has been scientifically proven is easier to read, and done in two shades of blue, overall it creates an easy to read master head with connotations of intelligence. In contrast the Independent logo is in block capitals, which coupled with the picture has an high impact effect. The Financial Times logo is perhaps the most droll of the selections, it has connotations of intelligence, and law.
